Hi, I'm James - the proprietor, buyer, taster, accountant, marketeer, blogger (and drinker) at Hook & Ford.
Why did I start Hook & Ford?
(Real answer: I had to find a way of justifying my ever growing obsession over wine to my wife).
But also, I found that there was a divide between wine merchants selling cases of "fine wine" and others selling individual bottles of normally more esoteric or quirky wine. I wanted to provide a space where you could put together a case of Godello, Mencia, Albarino, Nebbiolo and Aglianico and stick a bottle of Chateau Pontet Canet or Dom Perignon in as well.
Between 2015 and 2017 I took Level 2 & 3 of the WSET (Wine & Spirit Education Trust) courses and also went on to (recently) complete my WSET Diploma after 16 months of hard study.
Wine education can never cease. Every bottle is an opportunity to learn something after all.
First and foremost what I have learnt is that there are two types of wine... one that the producer cares about and one that the producer doesn't. The second type is made by the numbers and has no discernible quality or taste.
The first type, however, you will find here. It is made with passion, hard work, integrity and a real concern to produce something of beauty, something akin with nature and something for people to enjoy. Really enjoy.
And so I bring to you Hook & Ford: Because wine should always be delicious!
