Exceptional Wine

Hook and Ford

Clos de Vougeot, Joseph Drouhin 2012

We are down to our last bottle, I'm afraid, of this monumental wine. Clos de Vougeot is a beautiful Grand Cru Burgundy that requires respect and time. This one should not be approached until at least 2018 and will have a 20+ cellar life.

Drouhin consistently make fabulous wines, wines worth waiting for and savouring. Add this to your cellar and you'll unfortunately lose a storage space for quite some time to come... but it will be worth it in the end.

Vinous give this 93+/100:

Drouhin's 2012 Clos de Vougeot is incisive and powerful to the core, the 2012 Clos de Vougeot is laced with iron, smoke, graphite and dried red cherries. The tannins are massive, so readers will have to be patient, but there is a lot to look forward to. Rose petals, savory herbs and anise all add complexity on the intense finish. This is a fabulous showing from Drouhin.

Jancis Robinson gives this 17.5/20:

Quite exciting, nervy nose. They also own vines at the bottom so they say they don't include it in this bottling. Lots of substance. Solid and mouth filling. Grainy texture after silky fruit. Really rather fine.
