Exceptional Wine

Hook and Ford

Andrew Will, Sorella 2011

If wines can speak of passion - and they can - this must be a masterpiece. Started out of a tiny winery (10x60 feet) it took tenacity and a lot of smarts to start the Andrew Will winery. (Named after the owner's son and nephew).

Washington gets 2 more hours of sunshine per day than California does during the growing season. This means ripe grapes, ripe tannins and developed flavour, perhaps not something you would expect from the Pacific North West!

Vinous gives this 93+/100:

Bright ruby-red. Pungent wild blackberry and boysenberry aromas are complicated by smoke and minerals. Suave and fine-grained, with dark berry, floral and mineral flavors complicated by a whiff of game. Not overly sweet in the early going but shows the persistence and structural support for a slow and graceful evolution in bottle. The ripe, enveloping tannins saturate the teeth and palate.
