Exceptional Wine

Hook and Ford

La Rioja Alta, Ardanza Reserva 2007

This is La Rioja Alta's top Reserva level wine from 30 year-old Tempranillo vines. This vintage has officially been rated as Very Good by the Consejo Regulador, which means it really is pushing the highest quality levels.

This wine is made from 80% Tempranillo, which is aged for 3 years in American Oak, and 20% Grenache, which was aged for 30 months in American Oak too. This provides opulence and character; spice, vanilla and leather.

This can be paired with any meat dishes - especially grilled and roasted meat.

Jancis Robinson gives this 17/20:

Bricky red with brick rim. Sweetly leathery aroma, with hints of undergrowth and dried fruits. Satisfyingly chewy texture and full of dried-fruit flavours but still so fresh. Baking spice on the finish. Mature flavours now but still a long way to go. Produced from fruit exclusively grown in the bodega's 360-ha vineyard holdings in the Rioja Alta region, and named after one of the region's founding families. Intense, rich, many-layered vanilla-and-toast nose. Long may this continue! Classic traditional rich rioja. Attractive freshness on the finish.
