Tenuta San Guido Guidalberto 2015

The Wine

Guidalberto is the second wine of Sassicaia. Produced using Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, this is a wonderfully soft expression of the terroir of Sassicaia.

Being the baby brother of Sassicaia is great in 2 ways: firstly, you can drink this wine straight away (and for 4-5 years) and secondly, you can try the style of Tenuta San Guido for a much smaller price!

The Reviews

Jancis Robinson gives this 17++/20:

Concentrated crimson. Deep, red fruit nose with the merest hint of oak. Supple and yet lots of concentration and length. Serious tannins, but much finer than Le Difese of the same vintage. Elegant and hedonistic at the same time. 13%

Decanter Magazine gives this 91/100:

Sassicaia’s second wine, first created in 2000 by Nicolo Incisa and Sebastiano Rosa from estate-grown fruit, some of which comes from younger vines and is a little lower in altitude. The blend is also significantly different, comprising 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot to create a wine which is clearly more approachable than the Tenuta’s grand vin. Nonetheless, this is a seriously good wine from an extremely good vintage. In addition to soft plump tannins, this exhibits freshness as well as generous plum and black cherry fruit. Tobacco and cedar notes lead onto a fine, tapering finish.
